Things to do in Port Sunlight Things to do in Port Sunlight Built at the end of the 19th century, the idyllic garden village of Port Sunlight was originally constructed by Lord Lever as a home for workers at his soap factory, Lever Brothers, which eventually became Unilever.

Port Sunlight was established from 1888, when William Hesketh Lever bought land on which to build a factory, and housing for his workers. Years later, the factory and the village continue to thrive. There are now around 1000 residential properties in Port Sunlight, protected by listed status because of their historical and architectural.

Port Sunlight to Port Sunlight Village Trust

Port Sunlight is arguably the finest surviving example of early urban planning in the UK, and has remained largely intact since its foundation by William Hesketh Lever in 1888. The village is home to more than 900 Grade II listed buildings set in 130 acres of parkland and gardens.
