In 1966, a pair of the latest model VC Valiant V8s ran pretty much as they came off the showroom floor, complete with black vinyl roofs, three-speed automatic transmissions, four-wheel drum brakes and skinny radial tyres. The only showroom items removed were the hub caps.

The Valiant V.I.P. was offered in both 4 door sedan and Safari station wagon body styles and was fitted with a 273 cu in (4.5 L) V8 engine. The VE Valiant V.I.P. replaced the outgoing top of the range VC Valiant V8 , however with the V8 engine now optional across the VE model range and no longer reserved for the top specification, the change of name was instigated.

The Valiant V8 was a quick car in its day, recording a 0-60 mph time of just 10.5 seconds and the standing quarter mile in 17.5 seconds (as tested by Wheels magazine in May 1967). The VC proved a milestone car in Chrysler Australia's history, the 65,634 strong production run a significant increase over the previous AP6 but surviving examples.
